Research Experience Program
The Research Experience Program (REP) is a unique opportunity and is really the heart of WIMSE. One of the main pillars of WIMSE is that we are a research-oriented organization, aiming to help young women in STEM fields earn research experience in an area of interest, helping them continue on a path of research in their field. For students in STEM fields, this research experience provides a tremendous advantage when applying for jobs or to graduate school. As an organization, WIMSE has funded over 700+ research experiences since the creation of the program.
When you find a research lab on campus that fits your area of interest, WIMSE will pay you up to 10 hours each week. This is very unique, as typically gaining research experience in a lab is as an unpaid volunteer. WIMSEs are eligible to apply to the REP program starting the spring semester of their freshman year and have the opportunity to do so throughout the rest of their academic journey here at Florida State University.
“Being involved in WIMSE helped me feel a step ahead in my undergraduate research involvement, and it’s been one of the strongest experiences in my preparation for graduate school and a professional research career. Without REP, I wouldn’t have the research experience I needed to carry out my honors thesis project, which was the driving force in finding my research interests.”

Annual Symposium
In the spring, WIMSE hosts a Research Symposium to showcase the work of our REP students. REP students will have the opportunity to present an oral or poster presentation, demonstrating the amazing work that they have completed in their lab over the past year. Not only is this a great learning experience, but it also can boost your resume! This event is open to students, faculty, staff, friends, and family.
