What is a living-learning community?
LLC's are a select group of first-year students who share an academic interest, are housed together in a campus residence hall, and take one or more of their classes together. A special colloquium class is reserved just for LLC members. Students also participate in social and educational activities related to their interests.
WIMSE is lead by Dr. Susan Blessing, professor of physics! Beyond the first year, LLC participants are invited to remain in the WIMSE Society, our undergraduate organization which facilitates its own social, service, and research opportunities for members from the moment they enter campus through their graduation from FSU. WIMSE-exclusive programming, such as the Research Experience Program (REP), includes direct work alongside award-winning FSU faculty and researchers from across the spectrum of STEM fields, as well as fun events that help members create friendships and memories to last a lifetime.
Choosing a living-learning community can be one of the best ways to make a big university feel just like home. We HOPE YOU'LL EXPLORE WHETHER WIMSE IS THE RIGHT HOME FOR YOU!
Ready to Apply for Admission in 2023? Start here
This year's application deadline is April 3, 2023. Details on how to apply via the LLC Portal can be found here.
WIMSE invites strong candidates to interview as the next step in the application proces. First-round interviews this year will be held via Zoom from April 4-13, 2023. This is your opportunity to meet with current students to determine if WIMSE is the best fit for you, including your interests, passions, and your goals! First-round decisions will be available for viewing on April 14, and invitations must be accepted by April 17. Invitations not accepted by the deadline will be forfeited.
If space permits, additional applications will be accepted and interviews will be completed on a rolling basis. Miss the deadline but already have a Housing Contract? We encourage you to submit your application for rolling admission. Email wimse@fsu.edu with any questions you may have about this process.
We wish you the best in your application process, and hope to see you join us a member of WIMSE!
